2018 01 Quarterly Luncheon Meeting

The Society’s first Quarterly membership meeting at the new venue, All Occasion Banquet Center at Cave Spring, was highly enjoyable.  The facility worked out well, with plenty of convenient parking, meeting room on the ground level, good food and plenty of seating room for patrons and guests.  Maître d’ Tyler Luetkenhaus and his staff were able to accommodate the largest attendance the Society has seen at one of its Quarterly meetings in some time.
Best of all, the Presentation by Donna Hafer, proprietor of the Mother-in-Law House Restaurant on Main Street in St. Charles, was very interesting.  She recounted how a young girl from rural Illinois came to Lindenwood College, fell in love with the area and decided to spend her life in St. Charles.  She participated in the revitalization of South Main Street, opening up a successful restaurant and spending her life making that historic area a thriving attraction for tourists and local residents alike.  After her presentation, Donna received a standing ovation from the audience.
The DAR made a special presentation to our sainted first archivist, Edna McElhiney Olson, that was accepted by her grand-daughter, Mazie Dalton, a current member of the Board of Directors.
Thanks to all, the Membership Committee, the Planning and Education Committee, the Archivist and Executive Secretary and others for making the meeting such a success.
We look forward to the April meeting when the guest speaker will be Ken Kamper, premier authority on the Daniel Boone family.
